A New Format for the Newsletter that Includes Insights into Science Communication, Investment Advice, and Updates on Events
Welcome back to Changemakers, the official newsletter of Brighter Future.
We’re thrilled to have you here as part of the Brighter Future community, where together, we inspire progress and create opportunities for a better tomorrow.
This week, we’re adapting the format of the Changemakers Newsletter. Instead of a series of quick stories, we’re shifting to focus on longer-form articles and deeper dives into different topics in impact storytelling, brand strategy, and the startup landscape for climate-driven organisations.
We’d love to hear your feedback on the new format and the content of these newsletters. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, send a message to mission@brighterfuture.studio.

Investor Insights: Climate Tech Investing with Jan Lozek of Future Energy Ventures
Jan Lozek, founder and managing partner of Future Energy Ventures, is dedicated to decarbonising the planet through early-stage technology investments, particularly those focused on renewable energy, smart cities, and advanced technologies.
During our conversation, Jan shared invaluable insights on climate tech investing and offered advice for founders looking to secure funding in this dynamic sector.
A few highlights from our talk with Jan included:
Align with the Investor’s Mission – Jan shared that their team looks for startups that can clearly articulate the organisation's contributions to decarbonization, energy efficiency, or sustainability. Investors like Future Energy Ventures prioritize mission-driven companies, so impact should be front and center.
Demonstrate Market Demand & Scalability – Investors want to see a clear path to strong market validation and a clear path to scaling. They need to see that your solution not only works but also has the potential for widespread adoption.
Have a Compelling and Data-Backed Narrative – Jan shared that a strong story explains why your company exists, what problem it solves, and how it’s uniquely positioned to succeed. Also, make sure to use data and metrics to support your claims.
Showcase a Strong Team – Investors bet on founders as much as they do on ideas. Highlight your team’s expertise, execution capabilities, and ability to adapt to challenges.
Find the Right People to Pitch – Know which investors align with your stage and industry and aim to pitch to them. Tailor your pitch to show how your startup fits into their portfolio and how their support can accelerate your growth.
Later this month, Jan’s team member and Future Energy Investors Investment Associate and Impact Lead Natalie Milde will be joining us for the Perfect Your Pitch session on March 26th.

Deep Dive: The Role of Science Communication in a Rapidly Changing World
World-renowned primatologist and science communicator Dr. Jane Goodall once said, “Only if we understand, can we care. Only if we care will we help. Only if we help, we shall be saved.”
Her words capture the essence of science communication: for real change to happen, people must first understand the issue to care enough to take action. For researchers, scientists, and advocates, science is more than just data points and statistical analyses. While numbers are critical, they are not the full story. At its core, science is about discovery, connection, and impact.
Think of science communication as cooking a meal. You can have all the right ingredients and know exactly how they work together, but if you never serve the dish, no one will experience it, appreciate it, or want more. The same applies to science; knowledge left unshared is knowledge wasted.
But what happens to science communication in a rapidly changing virtual society filled with disinformation and uncertainty?
On one hand, the rise of social media and virtual classrooms on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube has led to a democratization of information, making science more accessible than ever. This allows more people to be exposed to critical issues and develop a direct connection to the research and findings.
On the other hand, the rapidly evolving digital landscape is filled with uncertainty and information overload. Disinformation spreads faster than facts. AI-generated images and videos blur the line between reality and fiction. Influential figures, armed with misleading narratives, can easily manipulate public perception. All of this is combined with the never-ending barrage of information, which can be a major problem for those trying to communicate their work or message.
This creates what many call the “attention economy,” where thousands of creators, brands, and voices compete for a fraction of our time each day. For science communicators, this means we are constantly competing to hold the attention of our intended audience. This makes our role as communicators not just about finding ways to share information but also about finding ways to connect with and earn the trust of our audience.
How do we face that critical challenge? How do we cut through the noise and ensure our message not only reaches but also resonates with our audience?
The answer lies in two simple yet powerful words: authenticity and consistency.
In a world where trust is fragile and misinformation is rampant, being a reliable and genuine voice is more important than ever. Whether through social media, public talks, or brand identity, maintaining authenticity and consistency in your messaging, interactions, and work builds credibility, and credibility is the foundation of trust.
For these reasons, science communicators need to be wary not to fall into the traps of our virtual society: seeking immediate virality, moulding the science or the message to match trends, or lacking engagement with the audience.
Instead, show up as yourself or your organisation and show up often. Speak the truth. Engage in dialogue and discussion with your audience. Continue to be a place to go for reliable and engaging information.
There is a saying in the writing world: “Good stories will find their way through.” The same is true for science. Be authentic and consistent, and your message will find its way to the people who need to hear it.
Now more than ever, science communication is not just about explaining the world; it’s about earning people’s trust and inspiring them to take action together.
